Aiming at the maintenance of the prominence of the South Minas coffee culture in the national scenario, the state of Minas Gerais, by means of its public institutions, has created a regional development program to meet the main problems concerning regional coffee production. With that purpose, the Southern Minas Ambit of Coffee culture was established, in search of the following objectives: to improve the quality of coffee, keep and create new employments, increase yield, reduce production costs and, as a consequence, improve the coffee farmers’ income. RESUMO: O experimento foi instalado num Latossolo Vermelho com a cultivar Mundo Novo MN 379-19 na Embrapa Cerrados em Planaltina - Distrito Federal. Os tratamentos tiveram início no ano agrícola de 1997/1998 e apresentaram as seguintes doses: 0, 100, 200, e 300 kg/ha/ano na forma de uréia, aplicados, a lanço, embaixo da saia do cafeeiro, 100/kg/ha/ano na forma de uréia, aplicados no sulco, paralelo à projeção da copa e 100 kg/ha/ano na forma de nitrato de amônio, aplicados a lanço, embaixo da saia. As doses começaram a ser ministradas no início da época chuvosa (outubro de 2001) em quatro parcelamentos. Aiming to identify how marketing tools influence the coffee consumer’s purchasing behavior, a piece of marketing research with exploratory and descriptive analyses, of qualitative nature was accomplished. The survey was used, with structured questionnaires applied to 800 consumers (São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro) in hypermarkets from July to December 2001. The questionnaires were tabulated and analyzed by utilizing the SSPS software (v.10) with descriptive and multivariate statistic analyses. The sample consisted mostly of consumers of the female gender, married, aged between 20 and 40 years, belonging, in general, to the social class B, senior high school educated. ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to define irrigation scheduling for coffee trees in the brazilian Cerrado region to optimize yield and coffee grain quality. The experimental treatments were: a) irrigation all over the year (RH1), suplemental water application after blossoming induced by rain (RH4), stop water application, at the harvesting time from June 15 to end of August until leaf water potential measured at pre-dawn reached - 2.0 MPa (RH3) and - 3,4 MPa (RH4) and rainfed crop. The soil water content was monitored by using a profile probe of 1 m. Water was applied to fill the soil profile of 0.40m until field capacity (-0,0008 MPa) as soil water depletion reached 50% of available soil water.
